In April of 2017 Katrina Bussiere-Venhuizen already had a cat and had just bought a house so a dog was the next step.

Without seriously looking for a dog, Katrina found a little black and white puppy in need of a home on the Coastal Maine Rescue website. Katrina called the shelter to confirm that she was still available and then drove up to Brunswick to meet her. Upon arriving she went right to the little puppy’s kennel. Katrina was still living in her apartment at the time but she knew from the second she saw Josephine’s picture online that it was her dog. With nothing really to lose Katrina brought Josephine home that day.

She was taking a bit of a chance adopting a young dog into a home already inhabited by a 12-year-old cat. Katrina adopted her cat Napoleon spontaneously years ago in Wisconsin. Josephine and Napoleon got along perfectly, and two years later they still do. “I named her Josephine because my cat’s name is Napoleon (nerdy historical reference, Napoleon Bonaparte was married to a Josephine. They couldn’t have children for some biological reason, neither will a cat or dog!)”
